WLSS Instructors

WLSS Instructor, Keaton Smith

I have been sailing since 2005 and have skippered my own Melges 17 and raced in major regattas and club races. I also crew on MCs, Es and cruisers. I am a U.S. Sailing Certified Instructor. I am also an avid runner and golfer. I have just completed my Freshman year at Michigan State University and proud to be an MSU Student Athlete on the Cross Country and Track and Field Team.

I love to spend my days on the water and at the White Lake Yacht Club. I started crewing on butterflies and MCs when I was very young. I raced my own butterfly for six years, and I recently moved into a laser. I also crew on Melges 17s and E-scows. I have worked as a lifeguard at the WLYC pool, and I am Red Cross Lifeguard certified. I am also a US Sailing certified instructor, and I love to share my passion for sailing with others. Aside from sailing, I enjoy going to the beach, paddle boarding, skiing, and playing sports. As a graduate of White Lake Sailing School, it is rewarding to share my love for the sport with students learning right where it all started for me. I will be attending and sailing for the University of Southern California varsity sailing team in the fall.

WLSS Instructor, Spencer McCormick

I love sailing. It’s been apart of my life longer than I can remember. I’ve crewed on Butterfly’s, MC’s, and E’s. The past five summers I’ve skippered my own butterfly in several regattas. I am a US Sailing Certified Instructor. In my free time I enjoy playing soccer, golf and skiing. It is my pleasure to be teaching sailing at the White Lake Yacht Club. I am a skipper of a Laser, and that I will be attending the University of Oklahoma, to study Meteorology, next fall.
